Not everyone wants to spend $10 on a grande mocha latte or chamomile tea from Starbucks, Dunkin’, or anywhere else that may serve it in the airport. We all know that airports hike prices up because, well, people are still going to spend the money regardless. But, if you’re like me (cheap), you’re only spending money if it’s absolutely necessary—like getting food because your flight won’t have in-flight service.

Luckily, there’s a way that you can get free coffee or tea while at the airport: Bring your own.

Packing your own tea or coffee is easy and will be allowed through, as long as it’s not in liquid form. Create a personalized coffee/tea travel pack by packing your coffee or tea in a baggie with sugar, honey, creamer, and whatever else you use to jazz up your drink into your travel mug or tumbler.

Every airport’s coffee shop (or McDonald’s) has a hot water tab on their coffee and tea maker. Simply add your tea or coffee and ask them if they can put the hot water in for you. You can also politely show them exactly where you want the water filled. Then, insert your ingredients and voila! They may also be open to splash a little milk in there as well, so don’t be afraid to ask.

If you don’t love instant coffee (and really, who does), you can opt for coffee singles that come packaged like tea bags. You can also make your own coffee singles.
